I went about finding my book through the Trexler Library catalog. I searched for books that had to do with conversions from Christianity or Catholicism to Judaism. I was not sure going in if I wanted a memoir or a book that discussed the experiences of many different people. I ended up finding the book titled Jewish-Christian Difference and Modern Jewish Identity. This book consists of the conversion stories of seven different individuals during the twentieth-century. One aspect of the book that I find intriguing is that it features stories of both people converting Judaism and people converting to Catholicism. I think it would be interesting to establish both perspectives and the differing motivations. An interesting element of this book is that it is shaped around the climate of the twentieth century and the historical events of that time. This provides an easy to frame backdrop for these life stories. I realized I would prefer to explore the life of multiple people, and then possibly dive deeper into the life of just one or two but to have the breadth of life experiences. One other intriguing part of this book is that it provides the stories of both males and females and creates the opportunity for that comparison of difference in experience. I flipped through the book and looked at the chapter titles and I am already curious about two chapters. The first being : Jean-Marie Lustiger, the “Jewish Cardinal” (1926-2007). The second being: Moishe Rosen, Founder of Jews for Jesus (1932-2010). The book is described as being divided into four sections, with the first three combining the stories in pairs, that of a Jew who became a Christian and of a Christian who became Jewish. The final story takes place in a post-war United States with the story of the founder for Jews for Jesus.
